If you ever get out of your chair, you might observe that there are special needs children who would benefit from a helmet. Unless you think it's OK to let them permanently scar their faces, just so you won't attract attention as being "overprotective?" Posted by: JoeB at January 12, 2005 08:27 AMFor special needs kids, sure, makes sense. For others - to whom it is primarily being marketed (see link to Thudguard Web site in my post) - it does not. Posted by: Matt R. at January 12, 2005 12:38 PMWhats all the negative talk about the Thudguard. We have 1 year old twins and one took a swan dive on to the patio and split his head. If I had a Thudguard I would not have this problem. I dont consider it wrapping them up in bubble wrap, just the oposite, we are letting them find their footing without the slam on the head. As the web site says, "scraped hands and knees are an acceptable form of learning pain without the slam on the head", who needs head injuries, I should know, I am a Doctor! Posted by: Lee Forsyth at January 19, 2005 01:10 PMKids age 7 months upwards are always falling over when they are learning to walk and how can you catch them all the time? Remember when you first got on 2 wheels? Exactly! If some protective foam around my kids heads saved me a trip to Accident and Emergency and would be over the moon! This is a very sensible product and its cute. When it comes on the market I am getting 2 providing they are really light and not too expensive. So then, Lee, are you getting some Thudguard helmets for your 1-year-old twins very soon? Sounds like it. Let me know when you do. And, will they wear them out, or just at home? There's a lot of concrete in the world. Posted by: Matt R. at January 19, 2005 07:57 PMI wonder what Thudguard costs? It doesn't say on the web site. If it is made of protective foam will it really stope head injury? I suppose those rugby players put them on for a reason and they slam into each other! Posted by: Mary Gates at January 20, 2005 03:05 AMYes I will be getting them soon. Whats wrong with wanting to stop your kids from hurting. And yes, there is a lot of concrete in the world but you have to use your commen sense and do a mental risk assesment before you let your kids play on hard surfaces. Soft surfaces would be better but you cant get that all of the time! Posted by: Lee Forsyth at January 20, 2005 03:08 AMPost a comment
