Matt in Today's JWR
July 07, 2004
I've got an opinion piece in today's Jewish World Review titled, "Educational Landscape by Dali." It begins: Here's a phantasmagoric tale. One of the global advertising industry's leading lights is teaching an advertising workshop at major university's school of journalism and communications. The theme is "creatively facing fear" by doing something transgressive, and capturing it on video. Read the whole thing. "We will yet make public schools safe for Ebonics." Not quite yet. Posted by: Matt R. at July 7, 2004 01:16 PMLorna, What do you mean? "We will yet make public schools safe for Ebonics." Amilton Posted by: Argus Milton at July 12, 2004 04:23 PMActually, Argus, those words were part of the JWR article I cited in this entry. It was a satirical reference to "spelling reformers" (whom I also discuss in the JWR article) who don't believe in upholding proper spelling because it's too confusing to them. Lorna was saying, in effect, that schools have already surrendered on standards regarding correct language and spelling. If you have a different viewpoint, feel free to lay it out.
