It has been about 350 years since we, in the West, have encountered anyone who wanted to slit our throats for the greater glory of God. So it is perhaps understandable that people have been slow to grasp the idea that urban renewal and a jobs program are not exactly the right remedies for the reappearance of this phenomenon.

One would hope that our experiences during the 16th and 17th centuries might shorten the learning curve a bit, demonstrating to one and all, both East and West, that a project to destroy the enemies of God doesn't really work either.
